Simon Vinkenoog

Dutch writer, poet and artist Simon Vinkenoog (NL, 1928-2009) was a lifelong advocate of cannabis legalization and many of his poems refer to the plant.

Dutch writer, poet and artist Simon Vinkenoog (NL, 1928-2009) accepted the Cannabis Cultuurprijs from Ben Dronkers during the opening ceremony of the Hemp Gallery in 2008.

A lifelong advocate of cannabis legalization

Simon Vinkenoog's  impassioned readings and performances stirred and inspired his audiences wherever he appeared. Vinkenoog was a contemporary and friend of Allen Ginsburg and William Burroughs, with whom he performed at the International Poetry Incarnation at London’s Royal Albert Hall in front of 7000 people on June 11th, 1965. During the Dutch elections of 2006 he promoted the political party Green Free Internet Party, which propagated the legalization of cannabis.
